If you’ve never had to board your dog at a kennels before, you’re bound to have a few questions.

It can be a little anxiety-inducing the first time you leave your dog at the kennels, especially if they’re rather young or you’re heading away for more than a couple of days. With that in mind, we’d like to give you a little more information about what we do here at Hollybank and how you can prepare your dog for its first time boarding with us.

Read on to find out the answers to all the top questions that dog owners have before sending their pooches for a brief sojourn at Hollybank!

Are All Dogs Eligible For Boarding At Hollybank?

Yes! As long as your dog is up to date with all its vaccinations at least two weeks before boarding, your dog is eligible for a stay at Hollybank Kennels.

We, like other kennels, are unable to board dogs who do not have all the relevant vaccinations as this may put your dog and other animals at the kennels at risk of illness.

How Big Are The Kennels At Hollybank?

We appreciate that kennels aren’t one-size-fits-all, so we offer three different kinds of kennels here at Hollybank, each one suited to the different sizes and exercise needs of individual breeds.

The internal sleeping areas within our larger kennels are approximately 2.4 x 1.6 and feature external runs of 3.45 x 1.6 metres.

Our smaller kennels are separated into two individual blocks, each housing three separate kennels. This is to ensure that we provide a quieter and more calming atmosphere for smaller and older dogs, as we understand that they might feel a little anxious around larger dogs. They feature internal sleeping areas of 2.0 x 1.5 metres and external runs of 2.55 x 1.5 metres.

All kennels at Hollybank are fully tiled, double-glazed and are heated during the cold winter months, ensuring your pup is kept warm during their stay. Our smaller kennels benefit from underfloor heating in addition to the main wall heaters that all kennels include.

What If My Dog Has Special Dietary Requirements?

If your dog has any special dietary requirements, be sure to let the team here at Hollybank know before checking them in. We’ll provide a form for you to fill out ahead of your dog’s stay that includes space for you to inform us of any dietary requirements or health issues.

We stock a wide range of top quality branded dog food to ensure that we have suitable feed for every dog that stays with us!

What Happens If My Dog Needs To See A Vet Whilst They’re Staying At Hollybank?

In the unlikely situation that your dog might require urgent veterinary care during their stay at Hollybank, we have 24hr access to a top local vet and will get them seen to as a matter of priority.

Our team of animal lovers here at Hollybank keep a close eye on all the dogs we take care of and will know if anything appears immediately wrong with your pup.

Will My Dog Get Enough Exercise At Hollybank?

Whilst it may not be possible to ensure that your dog gets quite as much exercise as they’re used to at home, you can rest assured that your dog will have plenty of opportunity to burn off some energy during their stay!

Whether it’s heading out for daily walks or playing with our dedicated team of Hollybank staff, we’ll do everything we can to keep your dog happy, healthy and exercised.

Can My Dog Keep Some Of Their Comfort Items With Them?

Yes! In fact, we encourage pet owners to bring some of their dog’s comfort items with them for their stay at Hollybank.

Items we’d recommend bringing with your dog when you check them in include their favourite toys, a blanket or a bed – the familiar smells will help to put them at ease whilst they’re away from you.

When Can I Check In My Pet?
